BDI has been very careful to obtain permission from the copyright holders for the use of photos, illustrations, and other materials on our site. Anyone who notices an image or any other documentary item that they think we are using, through some oversight, in violation of someone's copyright, please let us know by e-mailing us at photo-editor@bdi.org.

We want to express our profound gratitude to Dr. Martin Michener and MIST Software Associates, Inc. of New Hampshire for contributing the illustrations that provided the initial core visual content for our Field Guide to Birds. Dr. Michener's illustrations were developed as part of MIST's software product EnjoyBirds -- a portable Digital Illustrated Field Guide for Windows PC's. EnjoyBirds provides color illustrations of all 2166 bird species from the most recent AOU Checklist, as well as bird calls of the common species. By using EnjoyBirds' geographic and seasonal selection features you can custom-tailor your own bird ID guide that will help you identify the actual species encountered in your trip. The EnjoyBirds package in many ways parallels our own Field Guide, and provides a wonderful software complement. To learn more about EnjoyBirds please visit www.enjoybirds.com. Dr. Michener's illustrations are copyright 1998, Martin Michener. All rights reserved by MIST Software Associates, Inc.

We appreciate the cooperation and assistance of the American Bird Conservancy in all phases of the development of our Field Guide to Birds. ABC is a relatively new and very dynamic organization entirely devoted to "conserving wild birds and their habitats throughout the Americas." You can learn more about ABC by visiting their website at www.abcbirds.org.

We are very grateful to NatureServe, and to the network of Natural Heritage and Conservation Data Centers they represent, for supplying information from their enormous databases on the distribution of species by state and province and for the associated status ranks. These data result from the remarkable decades-long inventories carried out by the aforementioned Data Centers to amass information on the existence, characteristics, numbers, condition, status, location, and distribution of the elements of natural biological diversity in the U.S. and elsewhere in the Western Hemisphere. To learn more, visit their many Web sites, beginning with the main NatureServe site at www.natureserve.org.
